This original oil painting depicts a raccoon in a nighttime forest having climbed a tree to gaze at the stars. His eyes glint playfully in the light, and the light of the moon reflects off the trees. This painting uses gold leaf for the moon and the trees and stars in order to give a sense of real light emanating from the painting.
This painting was painted by wildlife artist Michael Scott Phillips using traditional painting methods. The work was painted on a masonite panel that provides the ultimate in stability over a long period of time, insuring that the painting will not deform or crack for well over a century if properly displayed or stored in the correct conditions. All of the base materials were hand-crafted by the artist prior to beginning work on the painting. All pigments used are color-fast and will not fade if protected from direct sunlight.
The painting measures 12″ (30.5 cm) x 12″ (30.5 cm).
