This classic black and white photograph depicts the Lake Julian power plant in Arden NC. Though a symbol of our coal-derived power, the building evokes a moody and dramatic atmosphere of clouds as the public uses the lake in recreation while the exhaust from the plant fills the air. Photography print is silver gelatin (aka silver halide) on baryta fiber-based paper from Ilford. The original photograph was shot on 35 mm black and white film, so the entire process was a traditional one, giving the image a natural grain that emphasizes the gritty subject matter.
The photograph is beautifully set off by a black frame with a wood grain finish (see photos).
This evocative photograph would look great in many setting, homes and offices.
